Blogging from Starbucks

Ok ... this is something I could really get into. Sitting with my Venti Non-fat Latte and doing some blogging from a local Starbucks. Now, the fact that this is being done at almost 2 pm on a school day might make people wonder if this teacher is skipping with the kids that were just here ... no, I am waiting for a medical appointment that I set for today. An hour massage - which is highly needed.

I was a little worried that it might be a little tough to get online, but it was easy!! Man ... wireless internet and a laptop. I am in heaven! Now, what am I waiting for? I should really get started on my first novel - have laptop will travel?

The honest truth is that right now, my life has gone into utter chaos. This last month has been such that I want to get myself out of this and remember it so that it never repeats again. Gotta love it - when God decides its time to get me to grow, not one stone is left unturned in my life! Home, personal, work, professional, financial, future ... the whole schebang. And ... the discovery that I am so dependent on a computer is quite terrifying! About a month ago, my computer contacted a virus - not sure how, for it was constipated at the time (not letting anything in or out), but it did. And wiped out everything. 15-20 years of teaching files - gone; all my creative writing - gone; pictures - gone; music - gone; letters - gone; resume and employment things - gone. There is a chance that some of it will be retrieved ... but not sure. So, I feel like I'm rebuilding from scratch one. In the beginning, the stress was unbelievable - I am sure that I came close to having a small breakdown more than once. But as time has gone on, it has led to even more stressors, so I have found a way to handle that, if only because there are now more pressing issues that need my attention.

Well, the latte is at the last sip, and my massage is beginning in about 15 minutes. Yippee!! An hour long massage ... oh, this is to be heaven!! Then back to school, and all that that will entail. The show is going up in about 2 weeks (Mainstage 2006 - "The Boyfriend"), and our tech is doing not too bad, if I say so myself. However, I do have to give tons of credit to Nancy - a student teacher who has been God's little gift to me. Thank you, God!

Yes, I'm most definitely going to have to do this again soon ... blogging at Starbucks is a fun afternoon activity.

First Sunday In Advent 2024 - Hope

For many years, throughout the past, I have come to this space to remember the Advent Season. To reminisce and to remind myself of what this all means. Over the past year, I have worked on a series I called "Wrestling with God", and - I admit - many things fell through. Even though I hope to continue it, at this time, I put a pause on it. The year has been full of ups and downs, and over the journey, I've had to set many things aside. More often, things for me have taken a backseat and things for others have taken priority. It's my intention that, for the next four weeks, I can make this  a priority. To come to this space, and spend some time connecting with my Christian ancestors. To breathe and listen to Christmas music, to just be for a little bit.  I'm not sure how long it's been, but I know many Advent entries in the past have been because of messages I've heard on that day. Wrestling With God

I know there’s a thought out there that *we* shouldn’t do anything to get God angry. We shouldn’t sin or get to the point where we deliberately go against what we believe is God’s nature or intention for us. We shouldn't swear or lie or have sex out of marriage or kill ... But here’s the thing: since *we* are not God, how can we be sure that we truly know what God’s nature or intention for us really is? The best we can do is akin to a form of psychological ‘transference’ or the shifting of emotions or beliefs from us to someone else, and concluding that the ‘us’ is the same as the other. Or, whatever we end up ‘transferring’ from us to God is as we say it is. But the thing is, this is not about God then … this becomes about what we transfer to and on God. This is about us. So, when it comes to what makes God angry, it’s about what we think makes God angry (or maybe what we feel guilty about?), not what actually makes God "angry", if God does indeed feel a human emotion...
